Big vision, small part - part 2

When you are small, big seems huge. When you are small, big seems scary.

We’re praying for big things, but we are experiencing small things. We’re believing God for big things but what we are living is the small, the everyday.

It can be so discouraging to feel small in the face of a global crisis. But then we are small. And God knows that.

He knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust
Psalm 114:3

He, in his bigness, loves us in our smallness and calls us to magnify him. Let him work big things, through our small contributions.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
John 13:34

As we think about how to respond to the enormous, complicated crisis in Ukraine, we feel so small and so helpless. But it is exactly in this place where God calls us to action.

To love one another as He has loved us. To stand with Ukrainians, Russians, Belarusians, Syrians, Afghans, Congolese, Somali, any and all who stand against the dark forces of evil – to love as Christ has loved us.

Sometimes the big things we see or hope for lead us to inaction – it’s simply too big for me to get my head round or to make any difference to. The question at this stage is not ‘how am I going to do it?’ but what is God asking me to do next?’ – what are your next steps?

Maybe it’s taking a meal to your Ukrainian neighbour, maybe it’s smiling and saying hello to the Afghan man you see every day, maybe it's getting on your knees in prayer, interceding for our city or for the nations.

One thing we are discovering as we make disciples is that the big things happen when we pay attention to the small things.

So, God, what are my next steps?

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy

I recently had the incredible privilege of visiting Antakya, a beautiful city in the South of Turkiye that was among the worst affected by the recent earthquakes in February. It’s been hard to know what to share since I have returned.

Keeping it simple

Keeping it simple

It's super easy to make things complicated. It's almost as if we do it by default. We do in so much of life. We also do it in our walk with Jesus, both alone and together as the church.
